Strange change monsters

The Strange Change Toy is a very cool and awesome toy from the 1960s. It is one of the remarkable toys that Mattel made during this era that is still captivation to people both young and old. This amazing machine was a great leap forward into the world of science and mystery. Just imagine a square that turns into a monster or a dinosaur once it is placed into the chamber. This time machine came in a beautiful box with wonderful artwork to inspire a young person’s imagination.

This toy is just as exiting to children today as when it was made way back in the space age 1960s. The creatures made of memory plastic are born from square disks with the Mattel logo on their sides. The toy came in one of Mattel's most wonderfully designed boxes ever. Two of the sides were in full colorful artwork of strange creatures, and of creatures being made by two happy children. The ends and other two sides were in magical magenta, with black on white detailed illustrations of the monsters, space aliens and dinosaurs that can be made on the outside of the cardboard box.

This remarkable and quality made set consisted of a beautifully displayed play mat that had a remarkable map of a lost world on it, a very detailed and scary vacu-formed green alien landscape set of a strange looking swamp within a mountain, the transforming strange change machine itself, and an nice pair of royal blue tongs, and last but not least we have the fantastic sixteen time capsules just waiting to be born in the strange change chamber before you very eyes.

The strange change chamber machine was the centerpiece of this remarkable space age toy. This was not an ugly poorly made vac-u-form or the cheaply thrown together thing-makers machine. These machines were well-made and tasteful devices, and had a metallic candy apple red finish on the well-formed metal frame, and the futuristic plastic strange change chamber on the top was something off of “Lost in Space”. You can almost hear the Robot crying “warning, warning”.

The overall look gave the appearance of a Mad Scientist laboratory that had created a space age time machine. The mysterious strange change time capsules were the most ingenious creations made of a special space age plastic with the ability to retain the shape memory of the plastic that had been pressed into the cube. The memory plastic was created by Mattel in their secret toy laboratories and the manufacturing process was kept a guarded secret for year.

This well-guarded process was much the same as the process by which plastic shrink tubing is made today but with a great deal of extra work involved. The Mattel monsters, and dinosaurs molds in their finished unfolded into a cube form were made in an injection molding. Mattel created and designed each of the creatures, and built each of the molds by hand. Mattel toys artist and designers put in great detailing into each creature.
